A. DESIGN CODES
All the drawings and structural calculations for our tropical wooden houses are in principle prepared by the IBC 2018 (International Building Code), issued by the USA International Code Council. For the USA we will apply the amendments to the IBC which may differ from county to county. The IBC is available for adaptation and use by jurisdictions internationally. Its use within a governmental jurisdiction is intended to be accomplished through adoption by reference by proceedings establishing the jurisdiction’s laws. And we ask you to get IBC 2018 (International Building Code), issued by the USA International Code Council, as a buyer in your country.
As such several countries have allowed the use of the IBC, whereas drawings and structural calculations will be dealt with as if they were based on their own (often nonexistent) codes and regulations.
Countries and areas where the IBC codes may apply:  African continent, Arabian continent, Caribbean islands, Mid Americas, Pacific islands, and several S-E Asian countries.

B. BUILDING PERMIT (Only valid if you build in Indonesia)
B-1 General

A building permit is an official approval issued by a local government agency
that allows you or you to proceed with the construction of your project on your property. It is intended to ensure that the project plans comply with local standards for land use, zoning, and building. These standards are intended to ensure the safety of current and future owners and occupants and to provide enforcement of zoning and land-use policies.
Specific issues that the building permit process may address include structural integrity of the framing work, zoning, sanitation, water, and sewer lines, fire protection, and electrical service.
The requirements for permits vary widely from region to region, though, and the only way you can tell for sure if a permit is required is to call your local building authority and describe the work you want to do. Some regions may require permits for almost every type of work, even building a landscape fence.
The decision to require a permit often depends on assessing the relative risk of the work poses to current and future residents of the house.
B-2 The Building Permit Process (This is an international concept; however, in this case, we will only focus on Indonesian projects)
1. Contact your local building authority and describe the project you want to undertake. If a permit is required, we are ready to assist you with advice on building permits in Indonesia. An application form will be provided outlining the requirements for applying for a building permit. Some projects may require multiple permits (*).
2. Prepare the permit application, including any additional materials that may be required. We will require architectural and engineering drawings and a structural analysis (if any) of your work plan to guide our work. (*)
3. Submit the building permit application and pay any required fees. The licensing office will issue you an official permit certificate, provided the drawings and/or structural calculations have been approved.
4. As work begins, post the building permit certificate as required. This may involve attaching the permit to the main entrance to the construction site. We will also redesign your project to serve as a benchmark for our work, based on your architectural, engineering drawings, and structural analysis. 5. At several designated points during the work, call the inspection office to arrange for an inspector to visit the work site and let him review the quality of the work. If the inspector orders any changes to the work, complete these changes, and have the inspector return to review the work again.
6. Once the inspector approves the entire work, you no longer need to display the permit certificate.
